Detailed Itinerary
Day Of Arrival: Pickup and transfer to hotel.
Greet and pick up by local guide and driver from Zhangjiajie Airport . Transfer to hotel for check in. Free & easy to explore the zhangjiajie city . Overnight in Zhangjiajie Downtown or Wulingyuan Center.
Day 1 Zhangjiajie National Park Part A
Morning:Golden Whip Stream.Afternoon: Yellow Stone Village(Cablecar). Nightstay in Wulingyuan
Golden Whip Stream: (Classic & Popular Spot, Easy Flat Walking, 2.5hours)
Golden whip stream (Jin Bianxi) is regarded as the 1 of the most beautiful Streams in China. It’s 6km long with a well-paved walkway at the bottom of valley, which takes about 2.5 hours easy & flat walk between 2 ends. ( For Photographer,may be 2/3 day). On both sides of the bottom walkway, there are hundreds of different-shaped sandstone peaks erecting by the clear stream with lovely legends and interesting stories from locals. Most travelers would be shockingly amazed the scenery along the way. sometimes, if lucky, wild monkeys would bring more fun and vitality of nature.
Yellow Stone Village (Classic & Popular Spot. 2 hours Circled walk On Top (cablecar)-4.5 hours(Hike up and down)
Yellow Stone Village is the earliest developed spot for tourist, there are around 4000 steps built up to the top,( the easier way–cablecar could fly us there too.) On the top, there is a 1.5hours trail circle for enjoying the sandstone peak forest with different angle.Yellow Stone Village is a very classic spot to appreciate amazing Zhangjiajie landscape.
Day 2 Zhangjiajie National Park Part B
Morning:(Elevator up) Yuanjiajie,Yangjiajie.Afternoon:Tianzi Mountain(Cablecar down). Nightstay in Wuingyuan.
Yuanjiajie (Classic&popular Spot,1 hour walk)
It’s one of the highlighted area in ZJJ National Park chosen to be the main background of the Movie: Avatar. No wonder,it becomes the most popular spot for all people. the peaks here are bigger in size, the view is close, fantastic too. Moreover, there is a World Highest Sightseeing Elevator (326m) which’s regarded as a big controversy existing against UNESCO, but It does bring an much easier way for going up to Yuanjiajie than spending 3.5 hours’ crazy trek on 9000 steps.The only problem for Yuanjiajie is ,in busy season, it would be unavoidably crowded.
Yangjiajie (less tourist,1.5hours fun hike)
Yangjiajie used to be the military base for the local bandit in old times, it’s a pretty wild area for nature-lovers, there is a narrow and fun bandit path leading to the top of Yangjiajie, called Wulong Village, which requires 2 hours to go forward&back. there are some spots on the path which are quite narrow, Big-sized guys may not make through. We can view a nature Great Wall formed by the sandstone when reach the top at Tianbofu, where also is the best spot to enjoy the sunset.
(Note: For Yangjiajie, there are more and more people for sightseeing in recent years, , because Yangjiajie Cablecar opened.)
Tianzi Mountain (Classic Spot,2 hours easy tour)
Tianzi means “Heavenly Prince”. Mt.Tianzi is an area for the hero of Tujia Minority, who commands local to fight with government army in Ming Dynasty. The scenic spots here are combined with stories and legends of this fate-selected prince of Heaven. Visually, the view is different from other parts of park: the peaks are much thinner and sharper, since it’s has the biggest opening platform, we can definitely experience the most spectacular view of sandstone peak forest in this park. and it’s one of the highlights in Zhangjiajie Scenic Area.
Day 3 Avatar Mountain On Waters&Inner Beauty Of Zhangjiajie.
Morning: Baofeng Lake,Afternoon: Yellow Dragon Cave,Overnight in Wulingyuan.
Yellow Dragon Cave (Classic&popular spot, 2.5hours inside hike)
I have to tell you this is the 2nd largest Cave in Asia. This inner world tour only involves 2/5 of it, which takes about 3 hours.There are 3 layers and 13 halls we are going to go through. Surprisingly, we will take a boat in the cave at the 1st layer, and for most of the time in 2nd and 3rd , we will hike up and down on stairs to appreciate the gorgeous view of Stalagmite and Stalactite.
Baofeng Lake (Classic spot, 1.5hours with a short hike and boat trip)
This pretty lake lies high on top of sandstone mountain. We would enjoy the view of Avatar Pillars floating on water, and hear the interesting legends about different spots in the lake and the lovely Tujia folk songs from young locals in wooden boats. It’s a very relaxing trip.
Day 4 Flying On High Day.
Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon+Glass Bridge. Night: Tianmen Fox Fairy(Optional at your own cost)Nightstay in Zhangjiajie Downtown
Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon+Glass Bridge(Popular Spot,4 hours walk or 40min bridge tour.) Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon is a new attraction of popularity in Zhangjiajie. this tour starts from mountain top to foot. It’s supposed to be very easy for all people. there are 2 interesting activities on the way: 1 slide tunnel and 2 Zipline.(300m).For most of the time, we will walk along a clear stream on the bottom of beautiful valley to enjoy the nature. but the hugest attraction there would be the world highest and longest glass bridge hanging across the Canyon. ( Finished in August 20th, 2016 ).
Tianmen Fox Fairy (1.5hours night activity: 8:00-9:30pm)
This amazing night musical has been acknowledged as 1 of 3 best nature backgrounded art show in China.(3 Bests are: 1 Impression Liusanjie in Yangshuo, Guilin, Guangxi Province. 2 Tianmen Fox Fariy, Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province. 3 Impression Lijiang, Lijiang Ancient Town, Yunnan Province)
Every night, it’s performed at the foot of magnificent Mt.Tianmen. The show is based on a beautiful local legend and love story between a fox and woodman in Tianmen Mountain, it smartly combines a lot of traditional art factors of Hunan with the story. It’s visually and emotionally beautiful. Moreover, there is no language barrier for people, everyone who sees it would understand it and be strongly amazed by it. Very good night activity to make the Zhangjijie tour more complete and perfect.
Day 4 Happy Ending.

Tianmen Mountain (Popular Spot,4-8hours depends on situation of tourist No.)
Tianmen Mountain, appears as the ”New Legend Of Zhangjiajie “. It’s the highest spot (1500m) in the whole Zhangjiajie area. The landscape there is totally different from, meanwhile, at the same level as the ZJJ national Park. Both are world-class scenery. Unbelievably, this single mountain holds 4 World Guinness Records in its small body. and any of them will be overwhelmingly impressive to the traveler of any type. Just amazing to be the thing we will never experience.
(Notice: Only 1 problem bothers tourists: In busy tourism season, there will be long queues, sometimes, it’s crazily long. It really makes people frustrated, but only when we stand on its top, we would realize it’s worthy.)
Tujia Minority Folk Park (Classic&popular Spot, 1hour visit)
Tujia Minority Folk Park used to be the Palace of Tuijia King. it’s a nice place to know the local Tujia people.The architectures inside are just gorgeous. it’s regarded as the top garden in minority area of China. The main attraction is the world highest stilt wooden house called “Nine Skies”. Really impressive.
Junsheng Sandstone Painting Gallery (Classic Spot,1 hour of local art visit)
It’s a place where our eyes would be dazzled. Through 30min’s tour, we can enjoy a unique type of art called Sandstone painting, which is invented by a very talented and creative local painter:”Li Junsheng”–a respectable man with story and faith of art.
The subject of most paintings are about the landscape and cultures of Zhangjiajie and western Hunan Province. so it can always be a great conclusion or ending for the trip we have experienced. You may see the places you have visited and gone through from this wonderful local art.
