Zhangjiajie Bailong Elevator
Located in the Wulingyuan Scenic Area of Zhangjiajie World Natural Heritage Site, the Bailong Elevator is one of the most iconic landmark attractions in Zhangjiajie. It perfectly connects top scenic spots including Golden Whip Stream, Yuanjiajie Scenic Area, and Tianzi Mountain. Taking the Bailong Elevator, tourists can easily reach the famous Avatar Mountain and surrounding core zones in just under 2 minutes. By contrast, hiking up on foot would take around 2.5 hours, which is too challenging and time-consuming for most travelers.
Construction workers started building the Bailong Elevator in September 1999 and completed the project in April 2002 before its official trial operation. Germany’s Rangger International Elevator Company manufactured all core elevator equipment, and the whole project cost a total of 180 million RMB.
Boasting stunning architectural grandeur, the Bailong Elevator features a vertical drop height of 326 meters and a one-way running time of only 66 seconds. In 2015, it was officially certified by Guinness World Records as the world’s highest outdoor elevator, making it an unmissable highlight on any Zhangjiajie travel itinerary.
During the ride, tourists can enjoy breathtaking frontal cliff views and overlook the iconic rock formation group known as Gods Gathering. The fully glass-designed cabin offers a fully immersive panoramic experience, making it a perfect photo spot for landscape lovers and photography enthusiasts.
To ensure visitor safety, the operator of Bailong Elevator installs professional emergency rescue systems, builds multiple emergency refuge floors inside the mountain shaft, and conducts standardized daily maintenance.. It is friendly to elderly travelers, families with kids, and visitors who are afraid of high altitudes can stand closer to the inner side for a more stable experience.
