Zhangjiajie National Forest Park

• Yuanjiajie Scenic Area: Home to the iconic Avatar Hallelujah Mountain, this area offers breathtaking panoramic views. You can reach it via a 2 – hour hike or take a shuttle bus. The Bailong Elevator, the world’s tallest outdoor elevator, climbs 326 meters along the side of a cliff, providing a thrilling way to access the area.
• Tianzi Mountain: Also known as the “monarch of the peak forest,” Tianzi Mountain offers some of the best sunrise views in Zhangjiajie. On clear days, the sea of clouds below creates an unforgettable and dreamy scene.
• Golden Whip Stream: If you prefer a more relaxing activity, take a stroll along the Golden Whip Stream. This 7.5 – kilometer trail winds through the park, following a clear river and offering close – up views of the majestic peaks. Keep an eye out for the monkeys that inhabit the area.

Tianmen Mountain National Park

• The Glass Skywalk: A transparent walkway suspended 1,400 meters above the ground, the glass skywalk is 60 meters long. Walking on it gives you an adrenaline rush while presenting incredible views of the surrounding peaks.
• The 99 – bend Road: This road is a remarkable feat of engineering, with 99 hairpin bends leading to Tianmen Cave. From there, 999 steps take you up to the natural rock arch, also known as “heaven’s gate.”
• Cable Car Ride: The 7,455 – meter – long cable car ride is the longest in the world. It provides an awe – inspiring view of the entire mountain and its surroundings, allowing you to appreciate the grandeur of Tianmen Mountain from above.

Best Time to Visit

• Spring (March to May): Spring is an ideal time to visit Zhangjiajie. The weather is mild, and the blooming flowers add a touch of charm to the landscape. April and May bring clearer skies and comfortable temperatures, making it perfect for sightseeing and outdoor activities.
• Summer (June to August): Summer is the peak tourist season as the area is lush and green. However, expect larger crowds, especially during the school holidays in July and August. Although temperatures can be high, the higher altitudes and shaded trails in the parks offer a cooler retreat.
• Autumn (September to November): Autumn is another great time to visit. The mountains take on a warm, golden hue, and the cooler temperatures make hiking more pleasant. October is particularly popular due to the National Day holiday, so it’s wise to plan ahead to avoid overcrowded areas.
• Winter (December to February): Winter brings a unique charm to Zhangjiajie with its snow – covered peaks, creating a dramatic and serene view. While some areas might close due to snow, you’ll encounter fewer tourists, allowing for a more peaceful experience.
