Plot Summary

Based on the classic Hunan folk tale Liu Hai Cutting Firewood, the musical tells a timeless love story between a kind-hearted fox fairy and a poor woodcutter, Liu Hai:
 
  1. Prologue: A hundred Tujia girls sing an ancient ballad about the legendary love, with the “petrified lovers” (Liu Hai and the fox fairy) gazing at each other on a cliff.
  2. Fairy Mountain Encounter: The white fox fairy (who dislikes her forced marriage to the Fox King) meets Liu Hai, a hardworking and honest woodcutter, and they fall in love at first sight.
  3. Moonlit Lovesickness: The couple secretly meets under the moon, sharing their affection and promising to stay together forever.
  4. Betrayal & Crisis: The Fox King discovers their love, flies into a rage, and orders his troops to hunt down Liu Hai. The fox fairy is forced to betray Liu Hai to save his life.
  5. Eternal Waiting: True love moves heaven and earth. The two lovers are transformed into stone statues on the mountain, vowing to wait a thousand years for reunion.

How to Get There

  1. Hotel Pickup Service (Highly Recommended) We provide private hotel pickup and drop-off service to the Tianmen Fox Fairy theater. It is safe, time-saving and most convenient for foreign tourists.
  2. Public Bus  Take city bus No.4, 5, 6 or 10 to Tianmen Mountain Cable Car Station, then transfer to local shuttle bus to the theater. It is cheap but not recommended for first-time visitors at night.
     
  3. Taxi / Didi 

    From Zhangjiajie downtown: around 15–20 minutes by car.From Zhangjiajie West Railway Station: around 25 minutes.Free parking is available for self-driving guests.
     

Important Notes

  1. The show operates rain or shine. Raincoats are provided for rainy days. If canceled due to extreme bad weather, full refund or free reschedule is available.
  2. Please arrive 15-30 minutes earlier for ticket check and seat arrangement.
  3. Mountain night temperature is lower, please prepare a light jacket.
  4. No outside food, large luggage or flash photography during the performance.
  5. English and Kearon subtitles are available for international guests.
